Behaviour at our school
At Witchampton First School, our approach to behaviour is rooted in our core Christian values of Love, Courage, and Inspiration, alongside our learning values of Respectful, Ready, and Engaged. Guided by our belief that every child is a unique individual made in the image of God, we foster a happy, nurturing environment where all pupils are empowered to flourish and live "life in all its fullness" (John 10:10).
Our Philosophy: Taught, Not Controlled
We believe that positive behaviour is something to be explicitly taught and nurtured, not merely controlled. We focus on understanding the root causes of behaviour rather than applying hasty moral judgments, helping our children develop intrinsic, self-guided discipline grounded in personal responsibility and respect for others.
How We Put This into Practice
-
Relational & Context-Curious: We build calm, consistent, and compassionate relationships. We take the time to understand the unique context behind a child’s choices, meeting every pupil with grace and understanding.
-
Rooted in Christian Values: Inspired by God’s promise to "be strong and courageous" (Joshua 1:9), we encourage children to show courage when making right choices, taking responsibility, and seeking reconciliation when things go wrong.
-
Restorative & Encouraging: Mistakes are viewed as valuable opportunities for learning. Through restorative conversations, we teach pupils the importance of forgiveness, fresh starts, and restoring harmony within our school community.
-
High Standards for All: By modeling mutual respect and high expectations in everyday interaction, we ensure our school remains a safe, peaceful space where every child gains the social and emotional skills needed to thrive in their next steps.
By holding love, courage, and respect at the heart of everything we do, we guide our children to become resilient, thoughtful, and compassionate citizens equipped to make a positive difference in the world.
