Religious Education

Religious Education (RE) at Witchampton C of E First School

"Live a life of love, just as Jesus loved us." — Ephesians 5:2

At Witchampton C of E First School, Religious Education is central to our distinctively Christian foundation, enabling all pupils to grow, flourish, and develop a rich understanding of the world around them.

Collaborative & Trust-Wide Curriculum Design

Our RE policy and curriculum have been developed through close collaboration across the Initio Learning Trust, working alongside fellow first schools to share expertise and maintain the highest educational standards.

To ensure our curriculum is theologically sound, contextually relevant, and inspiring, we work in direct partnership with the Diocese of Salisbury. Guided by Salisbury Diocesan advisors, our RE framework provides a clear, progressive roadmap from Early Years through to Year 4, combining academic rigor with meaningful personal reflection.

National Curriculum & Multi-Faith Learning

While we are proudly a Church of England school, our RE provision fully satisfies national curriculum requirements by delivering a broad, balanced, and inclusive education. We teach Christianity as a living global faith, while ensuring pupils systematically explore and learn about all major world religions and non-religious worldviews (including Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Humanism).

Our curriculum equips children to:

  • Gain Deep Knowledge: Explore core religious concepts, sacred texts, and cultural traditions across world faiths.

  • Develop Religious Literacy: Learn to ask big questions, express informed views, and engage in thoughtful, respectful dialogue.

  • Cultivate Respect & Inclusion: Value diversity within God's world, treating all individuals and worldviews with kindness, dignity, and understanding (James 2:1).

Through our collaborative partnership with the Diocese of Salisbury and Initio Learning Trust, our RE curriculum ensures every child develops the wisdom, empathy, and cultural competency needed to live as responsible, respectful citizens in modern society.
