Adverse Weather

Decisions to Close the School

Decisions to Close the School

On very rare occasions, during extreme adverse weather or other emergencies, there may be a need to close the school at short notice.

This is always a decision of last resort, and only taken when it is clear that we cannot open and run the school safely and / or if there is a failure of heat, water or power to the building.

We will endeavour to advise parents of closure via by 7.30am at the latest each morning.

The decision will be influenced by a number of factors, including:

  • Whether or not sufficient staff can get into school in order for an appropriate level of staffing to be provided;
  • Whether or not the conditions on site present a significant risk of harm to pupils and adults.

If the decision is taken to close then this will always be a 'last resort' decision.

The decision will be sent out via our website, Arbor emails to parents and Dojo's.

 School closure information can be also accessed via the Dorsetforyou website by following this link:

If school is open, please make every effort to bring your child, especially if you are within walking distance.

If school needs to close during the school day, messages will be set via email, on the website and on Dojo.  This decision to close will not have been taken lightly and is sometimes made to ensure our staff are able to travel safely.  If school closes during the day, please ensure you collect your child or make arrangements for your child to be collected as quickly as possible.
